It makes sense when we realize we are only a few months away from summer.

Your business needs to respond to consumer demand, so it may be time to try to promote healthy pizza options.

What are health conscious consumers looking for in a ‘skinny’ pizza? Below is a list of items we have noticed that pizzerias are using in their ads.

1. Fresh Herbs – Position your healthy options as fresh and gourmet (in other words a premium option you can charge more for) to stimulate the taste buds of your clients.
2. Wheat or Gluten-free crust – You may be able to present this as an upgrade to any of the pizza’s on your menu. For example, for $4 more you can make any pizza gluten-free.
3. Consider offering a healthy cheese blend that consists of mozzarella cheese and a tofu cheese product.

4. You could lose the cheese and sauce all together and put fresh tomatoes drizzled with garlic olive oil and fresh herbs as the topping. Paired with waist-friendly chicken and vegetables, this would be a delicious and healthy option.
5. Promote your skinny pizza with a catchy name, a high resolution photo, and a glossy sticky note box topper to start spreading the word!

Check out the skinny note on the left and call me if you would like to start brainstorming.

Targeting hotel guests is a lucrative, but often times a dead end proposition. You are focusing on a market that really needs your services, however they are not necessarily a returning client. A successful ad campaign focuses on creating and building long term clients.

So how do we build business with hotel guests and relationships?

The answer lies in how you set up your program. Purchasing in-room advertisements (channel guides) from a third party is not an effective use of your advertising dollars. They are costly and don’t often turn out results. Instead, build relationships with the concierge and management. Build rapport by offering free pizza or a kick back (for instance $2) from each pizza sold. In our social age, personal recommendations are more powerful than an ad on the nightstand.

The Game Plan

Many of our clients reinforce the message by applying sticky note ads on hotel doors offering discounts or promoting an item on the menu.

From Marketing 101, we all know that the best way to earn trust and gain business is to give something away. Consider printing sticky note pads for each room with your details along the bottom. This would be a win-win with management because it is also offering a service/ freebie to their guests.

Targeting hotel guests is like trying to hit a moving target. You have to shoot ahead of the target to hit the bulls eye. In other words, build relationships with hotel management and employees and get them excited about your product before the guests even arrive. The staffs enthusiasm will translate to more sales in the long run.

Get the most out of your St. Patrick’s Day promotion. Pizzerias around the country are creating innovative products available only for St. Patrick’s Day. Limited time promotions revitalize your menu and bring curious customers into your store.

Case Study: Creating Buzz

Sometimes a promotion can create a cult-like following. When McDonalds introduced it’s mint flavored shake for St. Patrick’s Day, they had no idea it would create a buzz on the web. McDonald’s only releases the mint shake to a limited number of franchises and people will go out of their way to find them.

Imagine that. Your clients stocking YOU!

Below are some St. Patrick’s Day Menu items you may want to consider promoting:

• Corned beef and cabbage pizza
• Mint Shake (McDonald’s has some of the most successful marketing campaigns; capitalize on their market research).
• Gold at the end of the rainbow – promote a basket of golden chicken wings.
• Lucky Pizza – Try making a 3-leaf clover in the middle of a pizza with a jalapeno or bell pepper. They naturally have three segments that resemble a clover. You could even make the dough green!

Another way to take advantage of your St. Patrick’s Day campaign is by promoting under performing items on your menu and giving them a St. Patrick’s Day twist. For instance, maybe you have the best breadsticks in town, but people aren’t ordering them. Make a St. Patrick’s Day coupon that offers FREE breadsticks with a pizza purchase. That gives the customer a reason to come in and try a product.

The Bottom Line

An easy, cost effective way to promote your St. Patrick’s Day campaign is by purchasing our full-back adhesive die cut notes. They are in the shape of a shamrock, and would look GREAT on a pizza box. For only $350 you will get 10,000 glossy notes with full color imprint and a bleed. This price also includes shipping (design services not included). Worried you will have too many? Have the offer expire March 17, that way you can use them again next year! Call Diana for more details.

In the comments section, let us know what St. Patrick’s Day campaigns you have tried and your results.

This week I wanted to highlight just how people are using sticky notes.

It’s no surprise that pizza box toppers came up as the top use of sticky notes, but we were surprised by the runner-up.

The runner-up is a new idea made possible by super sticky adhesive. It is a phenomenon that is spreading not by advertising, but by people seeing them in action. Can you guess what it is?

Car window application.

Can sticky notes help grass roots advertising efforts for small businesses and organizations? We think so. In fact, approximately 5% of inquiries received this year were from business owners who had a sticky note advertisements put on their car… and they wanted their own.

The beauty of using sticky notes on car windows, is that you can conveniently place it on the drivers side door. Instead of a frustrating experience, where the person has to get out of their car and remove a flyer, they have a pleasant and novel advertisement that easily adheres to their dashboard or day planner.

What else can you do with sticky note advertisements? See below for the top uses for sticky notes.

1- Box Toppers – 44%
2- Car Windows – 43%
3- Door Hangers – 31%
4- Newspapers – Front Page Sticky Note – 12%
5- Catering Trays – 6%

What is a creative way you have used sticky note advertisements?

Does it sound too good to be true? Here’s what Dave from Fox’s Pizza Den in Murfreesboro, TN had to say:

“NoteAds are one of our most redeemed coupons by customers – Approximately a 30% return.“

Check out Dave’s ad:

Jim from Poppa’s Pizzeria in Chagrin Falls also had a successful return rate:

” I had about a 20% return on 13,000 pieces sent out. That was a better return than any other advertising we have tried.”

Here is the Poppa’s Pizzeria ad with the 20% return rate:

We discovered from the NoteAds survey that high redemption rates weren’t the only reason people were using NoteAds. Delmar from Garbonzo’s Pizza used NoteAds to announce their grand opening:

“The response was overwhelming.
We had customers lined up out the door on both days of the special!”

We gathered these results from the NoteAds Survey sent out two weeks ago. Click here if you would like to view or fill out the survey.

What do you think? Why do you think sticky note ads have such a high success rate?
